Dr Angela Dramowski
I developed pulmonary TB as a junior doctor working in South Africa. Despite working with patients suffering from TB on a daily basis, I had always considered myself to be at very low risk of contracting TB.
My personal experience with TB motivated me to follow a career in infectious diseases, where I felt I could contribute to developing safer healthcare environments for patients and healthcare workers.
Interacting with healthcare students and workers has been the most the most exciting part of my involvement in TB Proof. Education and attitude change are important tools to increase awareness of occupational TB risk and encourage safe healthcare practice and TB infection control implementation. implementation of TB infection control interventions could be improved through operational research to identify facilitators and barriers to uptake.
TB can affect anyone. People suffering from TB need our support to achieve disease cure. TB infection prevention is everyone’s responsibility.
